Artist Statement
As a gymnastics teacher since 1987, I have always been intrigued by the human body and by how we move and interact with the world around us. I have discovered that in addition to the human figure, it is the movement and form of nature that catches my eye and interest. In my work I attempt to create a pleasing form that is familiar to us and also shows off the beauty of the wood
While working with wood, it is important for me to be respectful and appreciate the wood. Because of this, my work is responsive to the wood not wedded to a clear predetermined idea. I enjoy developing a unique interaction with each piece.
This approach to my work may make it appear to lack a unifying theme, but its constant voice is respect for the beauty wood and how I interact with each piece.
